Al Ittihad have confirmed that Steven Bergwijn is out for the rest of the season due to a minor strain in his right ankle. The Dutch winger was originally set to make his return from injury against Al Ahli but this has now been postponed until further notice.
Bergwijn has been a key player for the club this season and his absence will be felt by manager Adel Taarabt and the team as a whole. He has scored four goals and provided three assists in all competitions so far this campaign.
The news comes after the club had hoped to secure their place in the Qatar Stars League play-offs with victory over Al Ahli on Saturday. However, they were unable to do so and now face a difficult run of games without their star man.
It's not yet clear when Bergwijn may return to action again,Premier League Updates but it's likely that he will need some time to recover fully before he can play again at full strength. In the meantime, the club will have to find someone else to fill his position in the team.
